Goals of the Class

This class is for boys with no prior experience with gymnastics.  The age ranges from 6 to 12 years old.  In this class, we cover: events description and purpose, gymnastics vocabulary, skill development.  Children will learn most relevant body positions in men’s gymnastics including straight, hollow, tucked and pike.  They will gain the ability to execute these positions in static as will as dynamic settings.  Through conditioning students develop groups of muscles that are important to further their advancement.  Each weekly class is 55 minutes long and includes a 10 minute warm-up, conditioning, and practice in two events.

Flexibility (warm up)

Pike (touch ankles)

Straddle (touch elbows on ground)

Bridge (hold for 10 seconds)

Splits (good form)

 

Vault

Squat onto mats, 24” block, or mini vault, jump off land on feet

30 feet run, punch the spring board with two feet, jump onto 18” mat, execute the jump with straight legs

 

Bars

Pull up pull over

Cast back hip circle

Squat onto 12” bar

Pull up hold for 5 seconds

5 swings/re-grips (on pit bar)

 

Rings

Front support

Around the world

5 swings

Upside down hold for 5 sec.

 

Floor

Forward roll

Backward roll (down the wedge)

Kick handstand

Back bend

Cartwheel

 

Trampoline

5 jumps with arm circles

Sit drop, straddle jump, full twist (routine)

Standing front (from elevated spring board into pit)

 

Conditioning

Handstand on the floor

10 second tucked hold hanging on a bar

5 push ups on beams

5 pull ups (may be spotted)

5 second hold on baby rings

5 second pull up hold

9' rope climb with legs (spot if needed)
